Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Request for cancelled checks from Dept. Child Support Services

The County of San Diego Department of Child Support Services claims a debt of back child support which I don't agree with. They submitted an audit as per my request. I still disagree with the amounts. I then asked for all cancelled checks issued by DCSS to the custodial parents. The response I received stated they cannot provide this proof. I have provided proof of cancelled checks to them as per their request in the past to prove payments I had made. Does their non-compliance with my request cause the debt to be invalid in any way? I would like to have the disputed amounts dropped and just continue to send child support as I always have in compliance with the single court order which has been in effect since 1997.

Thanks for any help.

The court is likely to accept their representation of payments unless you have evidence to dispute it. A formal discovery request may be an option. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.
