Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How can I get a settlement with a creditor and can they send my delinquent bills

I have been delinquent on a jewelry account. The initial balance was $1400.00 - I have paid exactly $1365.00 on this account. I entered into 2 payment agreements with the company at $175.00 each, but they I guess because of a increase in my APR because of my delinquency they tell me I still owe them $1,000 and have been threatening me for 2 months that they are going to take me to court. They leave messages for my boss and sent delinquency letters to my employer because ''they cannot reach me'' when I speak to a rep 2 times a week. I have explained that I cannot afford another $1,000 and they refuse any settlement. I am constantly harassed and I really cannot afford to continue paying (the items I purchased do not even appraise for 1/2 of my initial balance and they agree to this!). Please help me to settle this matter before I am sued by my creditor and what can I do about the harassment at work??
