Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Small Claims Collection

I have a dilemma concerning small claims. I trusted my ex-boyfriend while we were dating and I lent him my collection of cds worth almost $1500. I've attempted to get them back from him many times, but to no avail. I've called his home and left messages with his family. I've sent him several emails asking for my stuff back. I've paged him many times, etc. We were dating when I was still living in Washington, and I've only visited his home a couple of times. I don't recall where he lives in particular, but do have other useful information in getting in contact with him. It does me no good because he's avoiding my calls and my request for my stuff. I was wondering if I could file small claims suit against him with the intention of getting my cds back, many of which are irreplaceable and priceless? I have witnesses who were present at the time I lent him my cds. And I have all the cd cases/jackets in my possession, as proof that the cds are indeed my own...he doesn't have any of the original cd cases/jackets. Do I have a case? If so, how do I go about doing so?
