Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Assault/Battery, should I get a lawyer?

I was attacked, and then not allowed to leave a house of the attacker. I finally got out. Before this incident he was a close family friend. I have bruises up and down my leg/butt. (which I have submitted while making the report) I made a police & hospital report. Its being presented to the DA. He claims he didn't do anything, he says my wounds are self inflicted. Should I get an attorney? What should I do now? Should I take a polygraph test? What will the DA say? Thank you for any help!

Re: Assault/Battery, should I get a lawyer?

You are the victim here and you do not need a lawyer, unless you are planning to sue the attacker in a civil suit.

The government aka DA's office are your lawyers. They are getting paid to represent the People and you are the the People here. I would relax and let the process take its course.

Sorry for your injuries.
