Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

hi! my bf and I got pulled over in his car making a left turn into a driveway crossing a double yellow line. We got pulled over by the gang division that just happens to know my bf from a previous case with one of his friends. He didn't have a license. But we both got put in handcuffs and then they asked if they ccould search his car. he said that he would prefer that they wouldn't.They pulled out a piece of metal from his car and statted that that was sufficient evidence to search his car.s I am an illegl immigrant with deportation orders and my bf know that if the cops even process me that I wont be able to get out.First of all, was it a legal search? and also they threatened to him that if he didn't sign a confession of things that were in his car that I would go to jail. So he did. The black and whites showed up read him his miranda rights and took him tojail. They held his phone for evidence because they found some mail that someone else left in his car and charged him with identity theft/fraud. They towed his vehicle and also, took his money "for evidence." I really feel like its all my fault and want to help him out. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm not answering any more lawguru questions for posters who refuse to post their zip code. This happened several weeks ago, and I spoke up about it then. I am speaking up about it again now.

The zip code allows anonymity while allowing attorneys, including criminal defense attorneys, to prevent conflicts of interest. It also allows attorneys to identify potential local rules that may affect a case, based on the county where the zip code is located. It also allows attorneys to refer anonymous users to legal resources in that specific region. Finally, it allows attorneys to identify issues that may require directing the poster to repost in another state category.

The only help YOU can do to help is hire him an attorney, since you are apparently not one, and thus can not do or say anything in court for him. If serious about hiring counsel to help in this, and if this is in SoCal courts, feel free to contact me. Ill be happy to help fight and get the best outcome possible, using whatever defenses there may be.
