Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I am a care-taker for someone who has a mental disability. Someone gave him a very small amount of a control substance and a paraphernalia. He did not use it, does not have a history of doing drugs, but got caught by law enforcement with it. They cited him for both, and he is due in court in 1 1/2 weeks. He is low income with no previous criminal record. Any suggestions on how we can handle this particular matter?

"We" can't do anything unless you are a licensed attorney that can represent him in court.

If he can afford a private attorney, get him one; feel free to contact me. If he can't, he will need to apply for the Public Defender when he goes to that first court date. "He" will handle it by representing the defendant professionally, using whatever defenses are available.
