Criminal?

I went to Butte County Court house in CA to drop of a letter after hours and was unable to locate a mail slot and slipper the envelope through the double glass doors. Could this be considered a crime?

No crime if no explosives or other such materials inside but do not assume it will be delivered to the right person.
