Definition of Attempted Murder

If someone is in a large fistfight and their friend uses a knife to stab their opponents can the person who was fighting with fists only be charged with attempted murder as his friend who used the knife?

If both parties went to the area to enter into the fight then each is responsible for the conduct of the other. Just providing transportation to the scene of the fight, if you know about the fight and the other parties intent to be in the fight.
