If I have a dirty test for alcohol while on parole, what might I expect to happen. First offense, no other problems.

The maximum for a parole violation is a year, but a first violation would probably get you a lot less. It also depends on your conviction; if you went to prison for a violent crime or an alcohol-related offense, they would be likely to go harder on you.

As you probably know, the California Legislature just passed measures to reduce the prison population, using early releases and changes to parole procedures. One of the changes is that nonviolent offenders will not be sent back for some substance abuse violations.

However, since the changes were just approved, it is hard to know when the new policies will actually be implemented.
