Re: expungement

Attorneys generally do them, because they know how to effectively do so. If you can't afford to hire counsel, even though it is generally not more than $500-$750 in fees, then go to the court clerk's office to buy the basic forms, and to the law library to read up on what needs to be added to them. You'll find the code sections of the law referred to on the forms. Or contact me if serious about getting counsel.

Yes, you could possibly prepare and file the expungement forms yourself. There are specific "Judicial Council" forms (and I do mean FORMS as in plural) that you should fill out, make copies of, serve the probation dept./district attorney's office and file with the court clerk. Your County courthouse should have a self-help center which would have the right Judicial Council forms program. Some attorneys will charge a nominal fee to assist you in preparing and filing the forms. If you are not sure that you can do it properly on your own then contact a criminal defense attorney in your area.
