farretta rights
if I relinquish my feretta rights and buy a lawyer can the judge deny my motion and make me represent myself two weeks before trail?
Re: farretta rights
Mr. Dane is correct. However, I would not wait, since you stated trial is in two weeks. Rather hire the attorney who should file motion for a continuance to prepare for trial.
Re: farretta rights
Even though you have a right to represent yourself, most judges would rather not sit through a pro per trial if they can avoid it. Assuming you haven't been a pain to the judge so far and this isn't seen as a delay tactic, the judge should allow the attorney to come in and enough time to prepare.
You'll have a better chance if you retain an attorney and have them with you at your next court date, rather than wait until the day of trial.
