Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My friend missed a couple of classes for drug substance and owes money towards the court, this was the second time he has presented himself to the court, i was wondering if they would give him another chance like besides taking classes, paying fees, and doing community work, if not how much time in jail would he spend?

No one responding to this could give you a definitive answer without knowing what the underlying charge is. California recognizes two different programs : Deferred Entry of Judgment (DEJ) and Prp. 36. Under DEJ, the defendant pleads guilty, but accepts diversion into a rehabilitation program. If he does not comply with the program, the original DEJ, become the judgment of the court, but again, the sentence depends on the underlying charge. At that point, the issue is whether he would qualify for Prop. 36, which is an alternative rehab program in lieu of prison.
