Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

inform about illegal activity anonymously

I know someone that has been living almost completely from income of his illegal business for years and has no intention of stopping. Money is the only important thing to this person at many others' expense and not just financially. He could care less. I have been in a situation allowing me to see the evidence myself and if you look closely at his habits and his home,it's easy to tell.

I would like him to be forced to stop. Is there anyway of informing the authorities totally anonymously with no chance what so ever of being a part of it now or ever? I am a single mom with 2 girls and can't be involved at all except to offer the initial information.

Re: inform about illegal activity anonymously

If it's a federal offense, the FBI has an anonymous tip line. Check the FBI website. On the state side, check and see if your local police department has an anonymous tip line. Also, check the California Dept. of Justice website.

"Living on illegal income" is not a crime in and of itself. What's more, the term "illegal" does not necessarily mean criminal. What crimes do you think this person is committing?

Most police will accept an anonymous tip and will investigate it, but the tipster should provide as much information in as much detail as possible so the police can investigate the reliability of the information before taking any action. An anonymous tip with no specific facts offered to back it up will probably not lead the police to do anything.
