on informal probation, arrested for drunk in public

A friend of mine is on informal court probation for a DUI. Last night he was arrested for being drunk in public. What sort of punishment can he expect? Jail? Also, will he need a lawyer at his court appearance?

If he is on probation, generally a condition of probation is that he obey all laws. Sometimes, depending on the blood alcohol level, there may a condition to abstain from alcohol. A new offense could trigger a petition to revoke probation (pro bation violation). So, yes, your friend should have an attorney represent him. A private attorney if he chooses, or if he can't afford an attorney the court will appoint a public defender for him. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.
