Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

mail tampering/ throwing out someone elses mail

I live in an apartment building with

13 units that share a a general mail

box with individual slots. Lately (last

2 months or so) the mailman will put

the wrong mail in the wrong mail

slot. I by chance noticed that there

are or is a tenant who will throw mail

that is not addressed to him in the

trash and not put it up in the

common area for the correct person

to retrieve or the mailman to

redeliver (some are just the next

door building). I have missed

invitations, correspondence and even

fished out a credit card bill and credit

applications with my name on it

from the trash. I have already put up

a general sign asking people not to

throw out mail that isn't thiers and I

have informed the landlord. The

behavior is continuing ---what else

can I do? Do I have any recourse? Is

it even illegal to throw out somone

elses mail if it is delivered to your

mail slot? Thank you in advance. J
