Re: Medical Treatment - How to Monitor Proper Attention

The answer to your question depends on the type of medical treatment required, whether the facility is a county jail or state prison, whether the inmate is likely to be released soon or there is a likelihood that a judge could order the inmate's release on bail or his or her own recognizance, the charge, whether or not there was a conviction and sentence, whether the condition would be covered by health insurance if the inmate were not incarcerated, etc. etc. If there is no way to avoid the treatment as an inmate, one way is to have a lawyer write to the warden or sheriff (as appropriate), on the lawyer's letterhead, demanding that the inmate receive appropriate medical care, and this may be all that can be done.
