Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Minor in possession - can they suspend an out of state license?

I was recently cited by some undercover officers outside a liquor store and recieved an MIP.. I'm 19 and in college here in northern CA, however my permanent residence is in CO. I read up on the punishments for getting an MIP and a 1 year license suspension seems like something I can't get out of - however since I don't officially reside here will I just get out of that? Or will I just not be able to drive in California for a year?

Might they just informally take my license away and then I can just get another one issued back in CO?

Any help with this is appreciated.

Even if you get a CO driver's license you cannot legally drive in California during the one year suspension.
