Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Misdemeanor grand theft

I was charged with felony grand theft

(was caught shoplifting $801.00). I

was arrested and had to post

$20,000 bail. My attorney got it

reduced to a misdemeanor right

away before it was filed and got me

released on my own recoganance

(sp?) Have not gone to court yet -

my attorney is ''aging the case'' while

I complete an alternative sentencing

program for shoplifters I enrolled

myself in. This was my first offense.

My question is - Am I allowed to

travel out of the Country while I

have an open case? My husband

wants to go to the Bahamas but

don't know if I should.

Re: Misdemeanor grand theft

When you were released OR you probably signed a promise to appear where specifically you were informed not to leave the state. I would check what you signed. If you did not sign anything, you are free to go.
