Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

missaproperaion of property

well, my case is really strange

When I pick my mom from LAX aiport she accidently (someone has left his lugagge card)and left shoes (new) on it.Since my mom had so much lugagge (she flew from Europe),she hasn't noticed the bag with 2 pairs shoes in it/

I haven't noticed this since it was her lugagge and could be her.

Next day after she unloaded all her lugagge (that was 250 miles away from LAX aiport) she noticed that she has those idems (no recipt only the name of the store)

Since she didn't know who she should return this, we decided that maybe we can check the store - assuming that if the person is looking for those shoes they will let me know, but if the shoes don't belong to anybody (the person paid cash) we can exchane them for a store credit.

I send those shoes to LA store and didn't tell that my mom found it on the aiport, but that I got it from a friend.

I got a letter from the city attorney noticing me to appear in a court for ''missaproperation of property''

My problem is that I had prior (4 years ago) pati theft conviction in Tulare County (where I live).

I'm confuse.what I'm facing off?

Re: missaproperaion of property

You should have initially sent the shoes to the airport rather than to the store. People who lose things search where they lost them, not where they bought them. The store manager likely thinks you were returning items you stole from the store, and you may end up in jail if a jury believes that is what happened. You should get a lawyer to help you deal with this situation before it gets worse.

You potentially have a problem there. This is a situation where you should get a lawyer involved as soon as absolutely possible to get on top of this investigation and have the matter resolved. Perhaps the matter could be dismissed or resolved quickly before any charges are filed. I would not wait.
