package sent through mail who has authrority to open that package

is it legal if you mail a package at mail box etc would they have authority to open package without any one else there dont you have to have a postmaster or cop there.

Why do I think there is more to the story than your just mailing a package at Mail Boxes Etc.

Many types of shipments give the carrier the right (even though it's not done very often) to open packages. This is true of most UPS, FedEx and third class U.S. Mail packages. First class U.S. Mail is illegal to open without a search warrant.

Reasons why they might open a package include 1) they saw something on the X-ray; 2) they have a sniffer dog that smelled something; 3) you looked real nervous when you sent it; or 4) they have a tip from an informer about your package.
