You are not entitled to a public defender when you seek an expungement. As their title suggests, a public defender's job is to defend people against criminal charges. When you seek an expungement you are not being prosecuted.

Even if you were entitled to a public defender, you would not be able to "select" her. Public defenders are assigned to cases by their superiors. If you have a serious problem with the PD assigned to your case you can ask for a different lawyer, but your request will probably be denied. Even if it is granted, the new lawyer will be chosen by the PD's office and not by you.

Public defenders do not do expungement; private attorney do. Expungement is not allowed if any prison time was sentenced, or in convictions for domestic violence and some sex crimes. If serious about getting it done, feel free to contact me if you are qualified.
