Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Hello. I have a pending criminal case for credit card fraud and grand theft. I hired a layfirm to represent me per very good friends are mine who are also employed there. I received an email from the lawyer stating he is no longer with the firm. I also received an email from my 2 friends stating they are no longer with the firm. My case has been transferred to the owner of the lawfirm who has more experinece and dealth with more cases that my previous lawyer at the firm. I am a little concern that I will be meeting with someone different. I have met and spoken to my previous lawyer. I have provided all of my evidence to my previous lawyer. He did a greeat job representating me at my arrignment when I surrendered to the court and did not have to do any jail time. I just believe he is more sincere and passionate about his job because he is fairly new. Now I have the more experience, big time lawyer, who doesn't really want to spend additional time with me explaining the process. Please advise. My life is in this law firm's hand and I just want to confirm if I should stay or move forward. My preliminary hearing is next month.

I've been in criminal practice for 35 years, and my view is that, assuming both are competent, you are best off going with the lawyer whom you trust and feel comfortable with. This is so because at some point you are going to have to make a perhaps life altering decision on your case and you NEED to trust that lawyer when he gives you his advice and recommendation. So go with your gut, and good luck.

The standard advice to such clients is that If you are not satisfied and comfortable with your attorney, get a new one, as long as your reasons are realistic, and you've tried to discuss and resolve your problems with him. You have to be able to trust his advice. If you have reached that point, feel free to contact me to discuss the case and costs. Like Mr. Dinday, I've been doing this for many years, and am local to you.

You haven't mentioned the firm or the attorney you're currently with, so it's not as though my answer is directed at anyone in particular. That's the unfortunate part of hiring a firm of attorneys rather than an individual you feel comfortable with.

I don't know where you are in your current thoughts, but I too am local and available, should you want to discuss representation. More about me and my qualifications can be found at: www.joedane.com/about

Good luck.
