Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Have personal finance worries per being questioned in jail

The other month, I was (wrongly) arrested and temporarily jailed after being involved in a fight. The Release On Your Own Recognizance person wanted to know all of my bank and stock brokerage information, my driver's license number, SSN, etc.-- and although I didn't give out any account numbers, they now know more about my personal financial situation than I'm comfortable with! What are all of the ramifications of their having this personal information? (And, of course, my ''OR'' was denied, getting out on a credit card to have the charge dropped a month later.) Thanks.

What is your point? Do you think the OR people at the courthouse have a file with all of your personal information that they are going to put in some gummint database in Washington, DC? I doubt that you have any reason to worry unless there is something else you are not telling me.

People are only released on OR if the court is persuaded that they won't flee (there are other requirements, but this is the one that matters in your case). In order to decide how likely someone is to stick around, he is subjected to a background check to reveal how extensively he is tied to the community. Your financial records were part of this check. If you didn't want them disclosed, you shouldn't have asked for OR release.

Your records are not on public display, so you should not be concerned about someone compromising your accounts.
