A private lawyer can do all kinds of interesting things with a drug charge.

You can beat it, get a Prop 36, the possibilities are endless. Is it a "strike"? Depends. You didn't give any details.

Generally speaking, a drug charge, even if involving intent to sell, will not be a strike. If there are aggravating circumstances - weapons, robbery, etc. - it might be.
