A legal defense to what? Most every crime has a statute of limitations. Some crimes do not have a statute of limitations, such as murder. Some crimes have a statute of limitations, but the time doesn't start counting until the crime is discovered, such as welfare fraud. So, depending on the crime time may or may not help.
