Help

Hello! I am really worried and getting so epressed with the situation i got myself into. We pass by Navy exchange one time to get few things, Im very dependenton y husband that i make sure that he's just around me because of the fact that i dont wanna get lost. I waslooking around while my husband with the basket were alreadyy nowhere out of sight. I amholding some items and got an earring that i wanted to show him. Got tired of walking around for awhile so i went out just outside the door with the things and sat down and smoke.I was approached by a guy and that time i was speechless and scared and doesnt have any idea what was going on. He asked for the things which i voluntarily gave him, then my husband came out from the exit and we were brought to the office. The guy again searched my bag then onlyi realized that i must have did something wrong. It cae so very fast that i couldnt even undesratnd what they were saying. A letter came formetopay fine of $200 dollars for the $41 dollars unpaid items. although my husbandoffered to pay and explained. Will it remain in my record forever? Will i go to jail for this, i have not receive any court letter yet but i can feel soon there will be!It was a very embarassing situation for me

Re: Help

Check with the legal officer on base or retain an attorney in town to look into the matter. the base attorney will be able to explaint the procedure used on base. If this was a store off base generally there would be not criminal charges filed later. Generally the consequences in a case like this are not severe. You may even be able to convince the law enforcement agency that you did not intend to take the merchandise without paying.
