Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California

At Safeway Store, Store#2712 in San Ramon California, my son was asked to prove proof of safeway food purchase. The first time the clerk Karen asked, he was nervous b/c he had left his receipt at the self-checkout. The second time by the same clerk Karen, he produced his receipt, but was emotionally humiliated and was very distressed and afraid. The safeway manager Bill at the Safeway store apologized and said after the first time, they will never asked for receipts and that it was not the job of a clerk to play the roll of security. He reassured me that my son would never be asked to produce a receipt again. However, the same clerk harassed my son and requested a receipt again. I contact corporate and store manager's/district manager. They are taking action to make sure this does not happen again. In the mean time, my son is very emotionally distressed and psychologically damaged by safeway's action. He now walks around in fear of the unknown and afraid he will be single out again. What can I do. Is this a age discrimination law suit since they targeted minors/teenagers? Please let me know if there is any damages that can be recovered especially that my son will have this disturbing memory for life and will impact his psyche for life. Miriam

One of my very first cases was exactly like this one. I believed the mother and sued the grocery store chain for her son's impacted psyche and hurt feelings. But I never interviewed the son by himself. 6 months later I receive, from the store chain's lawyers, a videotape of my client's kid sticking the salami in his underwear.
