If you are pulled over anywhere, be polite and remember that traffic stops are very stressful for the officer (for all he or she knows, you could be armed and wanted). Avoid sudden movements (Sir, my license is in my back pocket). Avoid making statements, they can be used against you. Be aware you might be on an audio/video recording. Don't do obviously dumb thingd like drinking and driving or transporting drugs. Watch the video, Busted: A Citizen's Guide To Surviving A Police Encounter (search for it on YouTube).

Sure: don't drive under the influence; don't get pulled over with any contraband in the car; and if you do get pulled over regardless of reason, stay polite, keep your hands in sight, do what you're told, don't admit anything, and you won't have any problems other than a ticket you can fight in court.
