Legal Question in DUI Law in California

I received a PC 647(f) on my birthday April 7, for being Drunk in Public in Placer County Ca. I have requested to have my court date pushed earlier since I'm a Canadian resident and need to return home by the end of April. The court house has arranged the new date for this coming Thursday. I am going to plead "guilty" or "no contest". I was wondering if i will be able to get the charge expunged at a later date. I want to be in the education field and don't want this charge to stay on my record. My other question is regarding getting a public defender because I'm not able to afford a lawyer. In doing this, will it prolong my case to another court date. I can't afford to sick around or fly back at a later time.

If you hire an attorney thy can appear without you and usually avoid ANY conviction. Most courts will dismiss such a charge if you perform some community service. This avoids any record of conviction.
