Legal Question in Education Law in California

My 11 year old son has a math teacher that appears to be very arrogant and sarcastic. I hear from other children that it is worse with no parents around. I would like to know exactly how this teacher treats these children in class. I am not looking to get the teacher fired or any other trouble. I just want to know if they are actually learning in this atmosphere. Is it legal to send a voice recorder to school with my son? Do I need permission from the district, school or teacher? I really don't want my son to get in trouble for my concerns.

How about visiting your child's classroom during the lessons, and seeing first-hand how the teacher conducts the class? Then, you may speak with the teacher in private about your concerns. If the conduct is apparent to you, you can then escalate your concerns to the school administrator.

Recording the teacher without their consent would be a felony.
