Legal Question in Education Law in California

Is there an ed code or regulation that states the teacher is responsible for completing all renewal requirements on their california teaching credential? Can a teacher use the excuse "the district never told me to renew my credential'? Thank you.

Each teacher is responsible for his/her own credentials. When the teacher obtains the credential, the California Commission on Teacher Credential directs the teacher what must be done to maintain and renew the credential. Usually, a district will remind the teacher, but with staff cutbacks, that's not always possible.
