Juvenile offenses

I was arrested as a minor for

suspicion of robbery, counseled and

then released twice. Each time, it

was mistaken identity and my

charges were dropped. However, I

was charged with possesion of a

concealed weapon (knife, starter

pistol) and sentenced to 10 days of

Juvenile Alternative Work Service

time and given 1 year of probation.

My records were supposedly sealed

when I joined the Marine Corps and

the recruiter went with me to the

courthouse to have the records

sealed.

Now, I'm told that I must disclose

these arrests each time I apply for a

job even though the record was

sealed.

I'm in the Human Resources field and

have learned that only convictions

must be disclosed and not 'Have you

ever been convicted, fined, or placed

on probation for any violation of law

regardless of subsequent court

action, dismissal, or expungment?'

Is this illegal to ask?
