Legal Question in Education Law in California

Is purchasing a fake diploma illegal? I'm gonna be finishing my bs degree in Electrical Engineer. but my parents will not be happy about that. They want me to go to medical school. That means I'm supposed to have a bs degree of Biological Science or something similar by now. I'm thinking of going online and buy a fake diploma to show them.

That would be between you and your parents. However, if the "fake diploma" is used for purposes of admission to a postgraduate school or employment, watch out. If it's ever discovered, you'd be barred from the profession -- probably for life. Why waste the money, and instead just deal directly with your parents. Undoubtedly, you're over 18 years of age and have the ability to make your own decisions about your own life. If you can't do that, seek out assistance.

Funny question. You can use the fake diploma to fool your parents, as long as they don't detrimentally rely on it monetarily, e.g., buying you a business where you can "use" the degree. Likewise, you would be guilty of fraud if you were to use the fake degree to obtain employment or some other benefit from another person or organization. You will be liable both civilly because fraud is a tort, and also criminally. I'm not sure about you being barred from a profession for your fraud since I don't know what the requirements are for good moral character in engineering. In conclusion, fake degrees aren't worth the money and are fraught with risk.
