Legal Question in Elder Law in California

elder abuse?

My friend is living with her mom who has alzhiemers 24 hours a day since her dad is in the hospital from a stroke. Her oldest sister has power of attorney. What can she do?

Oldest daughter has power of attorney

Came and took mom’s checkbook and deed to the house

Stopped health net

Cleared out bank account

Receiving father’s social security check

Tried to get mother’s social security (youngest daughter went to the ss office to stop this)

May have reverse mortgage (no proof)

Youngest daughter

Has been caring for mother 24 hours a day. Mother has alzhiemers

Jackie has been paying the bills with her parents income for 6 months or more

She is living in with mom since the father had a stroke and he is still in the hospital

Mom’s check is the only income they have now - 300 a month

I think she should go to the welfare office and the district attorney. Any advise out there?

Sounds like a classic case of financial elder abuse. She should most definitely go to the DA's elder abuse unit. She should also apply for a conservatorship over both parents.
