Legal Question in Elder Law in California

Four years ago we relocated my 82yr old mother from PA to CA, when we sold her house we put the money in an account (she is a signer); the money has always been ear marked for her long term care. She has decided that the money is better spent on teeth implants. We disagree. She has convince a dentist to do the work (beginning Friday). They are now calling us for the money. She told the dentist that her family is keeping her money from her. What are our responsiblities for this debt? Should we take our name off of the account?

It's her money, and she can spend it any way she likes. If you contend she is actually 'incompetent' to make such decisions, you have to seek a guardianship or conservatorship order from the probate court if you think you could convince a judge of that. If so, consult a local attorney quickly.
