Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Music Artist Management Agreement

If I signed a 5 year contract with a

Manager two months ago and I

have got myself in the door at a label

is there a way to exit my contract?

The Manager promised to invest a

large sum of money to further develop

me but I have had to pay for

everyhing and feel as though this

manager will benefit from all my hard

work and has not held up their end of

what we verbally agreeded on.

Sometimes the written contract will have a provision that the contract can not be amended or changed except in writing and signed by both parties. So without reading the contract, it is difficult to know. Are there any written terms of the contract that the manager may have breached? If not, you or someone else may have to buy out the manager's contract interest. www.lawbarron.com

Re: Music Artist Management Agreement

It is possible that can terminate your management agreement, but you need to have an attorney review that agreement to advise you of exactly what your options and liabilities are. There's simply no way to tell, as a matter of law, from the information you've given.

Please contact me directly if I may be of assistance!

Re: Music Artist Management Agreement

It really depends on the contract, and the exact factual circumstances.

There's no substitute here for having an attorney review the contract, talk with you, and advise you.

There may be ways out, but contracts are made to be binding, so unless the manager has engaged in some wrongdoing, or otherwise breached the agreement, it'll be a challenge.
