Your boyfriend might wish to give you or someone else he trusts a power of attorney to deal with the legal issues involving his father's estate. Since the inheritance probably would be hotly contested because of the size of the estate, there might be significant cost to secure the inheritance, if any. You might want to meet with an estate litigator in your community, at least for an initial consultation, to get a better idea of your boyfriend's options. Bring all relevant documents with you to the meeting.

You definitely will need an attorney for this matter. You should also read some of the Nolo Press books [can rent from the library] on estates.

Mr. Cohen's answer is spot-on. However, your question is a little fishy. "Blue Diamond" is a brand name owned by a growers and packers cooperative. No one can be married into the "blue diamond almond family." On top of that, families with large fortuntes are VERY good at not letting people who "marry into" them inherit anything of the family fortune. Considering how your boyfriend currently occupies his time, coupled with this little "story" he is telling you, you might just want to find another boyfriend.
