Legal Question in Family Law in California

I called police on my 36 year old meth addict son because he told me if he cannot see his son who lives next door to us, that he would kill the boy's mother and the boy's other grandmother. I feel he is unpredictable, and I felt she was under threat. He has threatened her before, and hit her. I have seen the bruises. We all want him to stay away. The police interviewed her. and my husband and I. They arrested him for pc 422 as a felony. I know they have a volatile relationship. I am sick of the situation. Is there anything I can do? How do we protect ourselves from him?
