Legal Question in Family Law in California

Child abuse/neglect rights under 18

My friend really wants to move out of his house because his father and step mother constantly put him down. He feels like he isn't capable of anything because of them. That's not even the worst part of it. His step mother is constantly touches him inappropriately like its okay to do. If he says anything about it, she'll either think he's play and continue doing it or she'll get mad and he won't be able to do anything about it. His father just stands in the background because the step mother has control over him to. He's tried to live with his mother, but she does drugs and can't support him at all. He's been hurt by her too many times, he can't bare it anymore. What I think is the worst is that after he tried living with his mom for the last time, his dad and stepmom took him off their insurance. When he was younger they found cancer in the back of his head and is supposed to be getting screening for it every year but his parents won't take him. The other day he fell and needed stitches and they didn't look twice. I don't think any kid should deserve to go through that. He has a place to stay where he will be supported and they will see to it that he continues school. They just need to find a way to get him out legally.

He should report this to a teacher or counselor at school. The lack of medical treatment of the injury is serious neglect.

I would contact the local child protective services, or CPS to report a case of child abuse or neglect. The social workers can do an investigation to determine what is the appropriate steps to assist your friend.

Good luck. Please consult with a local attorney prior to taking any legal action.
