Appealability depends on the nature of the court order. You've posted in family law, so you should be told that some orders are immediately appealable, such as pendente lite fee orders, while some are not, such as discovery orders.

The time frame is generally 180 days after entry of the appealable order, or 90 days after a party or clerk serves a document titled "notice of entry" of the appealable order. There is no extension for service by mail, and you should be aware that the appellate deadlines are jurisdictional, meaning if you blow a deadline, the Court of Appeal cannot hear your matter at all and will dismiss your appeal.
