Legal Question in Family Law in California

I was divorced in California in 1993. Both parties agreed to pay half the college tuition. My son is a graduate of the University of Phoenix 2009. He sent me a nasty email threatening court proceedings if I don't give him some money. Is there a statute of limitations? After he graduated High School, he got married, had a baby,

got divorced, went to college online, graduated and is expecting his second child in early November.

I would check with the divorce decree to determine whether there is an order for the parents to pay for college for the child. Generally there is no law in the books requiring payment of college level education, unless the parents agree to pay for it. Then they would need to have set some amount otherwise it is somewhat vague.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
