I discovered Fri, that he cut/destroyed most of my clothing and took personal effects of mine. We have a child together( 3yr) this is the 5th time he has left KNOWING that his son has no food, I have no money, and do not have a permanant home ( staying w/friend).I have a court date on 11/16. What are my right's and can he be held responsible for damages. He has threaten me if I file paper's and this "jail" will only fuel his anger. I appreciate any help. thankyou

Re: domestic violence

Domestic violence is a serious problem and you are in the most danger RIGHT NOW because that's when the perpetrator feels he's lost power (when you've just left him). This is as much a psychology issue as a law issue, so protect yourself and your child first. Contact your local bar association or a domestic violence shelter to get some free or reasonably priced legal advice, and I'd suggest some counseling too--this is a complicated, serious situation and you shouldn't be expected to figure it out all by yourself. There's some good resources on my web site at http://www.yourdivorceadvisor.com. Click on "resources".

good luck!
