Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am a family advocate. What is the appropriate approach to ask the children's lawyers to ask the judge to interview the kids about where they want to live? (With mom or dad) The kids are ages 13 and 10. They each have their own lawyers assigned to them.

As a an attorney who is often appointed to represent children, I would say that I almost never ask a child directly with which parent they wish to live. That can be very difficult for a child since you are asking them in essence, to make a decision over which parent they love the most. A skilled attorney would be able to find the answer in ways other than such a direct and often harmful question to children.
