When my ex boyfriend and I broke up, I took my dog which he had given to me for my birthday, my blackberry phone which he had given me for valentine's day, and a laptop he had also given me as an incentive to go back to college. When we broke up he said I could keep all that stuff. He's mad at me now and is threatening to call the police saying I stole all of those things and he wants them back. Does he have any ground to stand on? He lives in Oregon and I live in California.

The general rule is that the police do not take action in situations such as this. The generally consider this to be a civil matter.
