Legal Question in Family Law in California

giving up fathers rights

I am currently paying child support. I am having a hard time keeping up with the payments because I bring in a very small income every month. I do not get to see the child because of a restraining order against me. If I give up my rights as the father will my child support payments come to an end?

Re: giving up fathers rights

It is unlikely that you would be relieved of the duty to pay child support by relinquishing your parental rights. If you do attempt to relinquish your parental rights to escape child support it will greatly interfere with any attempt to get visitation rights. Your best bet would be to take the domestic violence prevention classes and parenting without violence classes. This will increase your probability of getting visitation.
