Legal Question in Family Law in California

guardianship laws

My mother and step father have guardianship of my son. They make alot more money than me. I went through some rough times when my son was small. I was living with my parents and things werent going good they asked me to leave one evening, immediately-not later or tomorrow but right now! I didnt have a place to take my toddler and my mom said he could stay there as long as necessary. well after a few days went by they said I abandoned him and that was the start of the guardianship sit. I just want to know if I have a fighting chance to build a life again with my child? He is 6 years old.

Re: guardianship laws

Yes you have a fighting chance. A parent has a fundamental right to parent a child and while the process may take some time, you should get custody of your son back. You may need to start with some visitation time and build from there. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
