Legal Question in Family Law in California

I'm being held in contempt of child support in a county over 200 miles away from me. I'm told I can show up and request a public defender. Can they hold me in jail till the next court date? If I get bail. Does than mean somebody would have to drive down the and bail me out? Or will I be able to leave there that night. I'm asking because if I'm going to jail, there's a bunch of things I'd need to arrange.

You're not going to be put in jail until one of two things happens: 1) you fail to show up at any of the contempt hearings, and the judge issues a warrant for your arrest, or 2) you get sentenced for jail time after being found guilty of contempt.
