Legal Question in Family Law in California

Hello.

I filed an OSC Modification by mail with the court house in Orange. I received the OSC, Declaration, and Court Order Mediation by mail with the court's stamp and court date as well as mediation date.

When do I need to serve the other party with the documents? How many days do I need to serve the other party? Further, are the days counted before the court order mediation, which is scheduled 1 week prior to the court date hearing?

I will serve the other parent by mail and the other parent is out of state. Are there additional days that must be giving because the other parent is out of state? Thank You.

Usually you must serve the OSC 16 court days before the hearing date.

If you mail it, you must add 5 days for service. You and the other party must appear at the mediation in person or make arrangments to appear by telephone. Mediation will be with a marriage and family therapist who will try to assist with visitation issues. Attorneys can also mediate or negotiate the matter.
