Legal Question in Family Law in California

If my ex hired an attorney at last minute and lied on me and attorney files court documents defaming my character do I have any legal recourse against the attorney, if I have documents proving false allegations?

Probably not, though you would be wise to hire your own counsel and level the playing field. My office provide family law services, document preparation, and when necessary attorney representation in court at reduced rates for low income individuals. Contact me to discuss further if you agree that it is time to secure counsel. Rates typically are from $500 to 850.

Wow, Mr. Brainard's rate is incredibly high, if that is his hourly rate.

A lawsuit against your wife's attorney is a real bad idea, especially if it concerns statements made during litigation. That's because they are cloaked with the litigation privilege under Civil Code section 47. Courts have interpreted that statute quite broadly, and lawsuits for defamation based on statements made during litigation get thrown out, and some people end up paying the attorney's fees of the person they sued.
