Legal Question in Family Law in California

Who has jurisdiction?

Me & my ex both filed for divorce in different states. she was served papers first. we are both wanting custody and our child is currently with me. She claims she has temporary custody. The court in my state have set a mediation date and a court date, her papers that were served to me dont show any court dates. What do I need to do and who has jurisdiction? Do I respond to her papers? I cant afford an attorney and did all the papers with the court myself.

Re: Who has jurisdiction?

The general rule is that the state in which the child has resided for the last six months is the home state. You should contact an attorney the the state in which your wife has filed a petition for divorce, and request that the custody case be held in California.
